    • Sub Tuum Praesidium
      (We Fly to Thy Patronage)

      We fly to thy patronage, O Holy Mother of God;
      Despise not our petitions in our necessities,
      But deliver us always from all dangers,
      O glorious and Blessed Virgin Mary.

      Oldest known Marian Prayer dating 250 A.D. asking our Blessed Mother for perseverance when faced with difficulties.
    • Our History

      The Blessed Virgin Mary, Immaculate Queen of Peace Sodality (St. Augustine Sodality) of St. Augustine Catholic Church was organized on June 18, 1892, and was affiliated with the Prima Primaria in Rome that same year. Since the early years, the Sodality membership has included men and women.

      In 1947, the St. Augustine Sodality was reorganized to conform to the rules of Sodality Union of the Archdiocese of Washington. A constitution was drawn up and approved. A new charter was obtained from Rome, and the Sodality became affiliated as a small faith community on March 10, 1952.

    • Our Mission

      To Jesus through Mary, this is our call.

      The Saint Augustine Sodality endeavors to preserve the rich heritage of Saint Augustine as the Mother Church of African Americans in the Nation’s Capital by seeking to not only to nourish the spiritual lives of its members, but also to reach out, in loving response, to the needs of its neighbors. We proclaim ourselves as Sodalists of Mary and as her children by promoting devotion to the Rosary, by seeking to intimately know Christ Jesus through the intercession of His Blessed Mother and by the example of our lives.
